What we did:

  • We ran ethnographical sessions with users in their homes, to understand how the app was used in a natural environment
  • These sessions identified that the app was  being used in completely different ways in which it was intended.
  • It lead to the development of 4 new features to better meet those newly identified user behaviours which were then usability tested until they were released

Outcome:

  • The development of these new features increased the amount of time that the app was used from 3 minutes to 45 minutes daily!
  • The depth of knowledge obtained by the team from this study, increased cohesion and prioritisation ability on the team
